The manufacturing and/or cultivation of many drugs is an illegal process in California with the possibility of severe penalties. Drugs that are illegal to manufacture or process include cocaine, opium, any hallucinogenic, and meth among others. Furthermore, many of these drugs require other chemicals to produce the desired product and the possession of any of these other chemicals is strictly prohibited by law.

Being charged with drug manufacturing can come with strict felony penalties and could land you in prison with a hefty fine. The typical penalties of manufacturing an illegal drug is anywhere from 3 to 7 years in prison and up to $50,000 in penalty fines. If found in possession of chemicals that produce drug products the prison sentence can range from 2 – 6 years in prison. Many of these penalties rely on the person charged and their prior criminal convictions.

Cultivating Marijuana

The only exception in drug manufacturing is the exemption of Marijuana, in California marijuana is legal for adults 21 and over to cultivate for personal use. The limit of cultivation is 28.5 grams of marijuana for a single person to consume. However, it is important to note that marijuana is still illegal federally and there are still rules regarding the locations in which one might smoke in public.

In addition, any individual who is considering selling marijuana needs to have a license to do so, or it is an illegal activity. If you are caught cultivating marijuana for distribution, or for any other purpose that is illegal, the penalties can mirror those of above.
